Laurie, Luke and I will be heading to Atlanta for the event. We are honored and blessed to be talking about our relationship with World Vision Micro and the incredible work that they do here in the U.S. and around the world. We have spent so much time over the last few weeks and months preparing for the ‘event’ that I really want to be able to take a step back, take a deep breath and pray.
This morning, on my way to work, I had my morning mantra rolling around in my head “Lord, not my will but Your will be done.” and I really thought about what I was saying. As we endeavor to turn this hot sauce company into a profitable enterprise that we are able to provide more donations and support for the causes we believe in, I had to pause and think. My thoughts are rarely profound – I leave that to the ‘smart’ people, but this one was profound in its own way. We can make this business successful with or without God being at the center of why we are doing what we do. It is true, lots of successful businesses are out there. There are many philanthropic secular organizations doing incredible work to feed the poor. We could power on, be successful, sell lots of hot sauce and donate a lot of money. I know we can. But I know that we would not be true to what we set out to do, the reason we started this in the first place.
So, this morning, I prayed (and even as I write this, I pray) that I never loose sight of our ‘core values’. I prayed that we keep ourselves centered on doing His will, not ours, and that we put into action those values in every step that we take. What are those values – they can be summed up pretty simply:
- Always find ways to change the world for the better
- Feed the poor
- Clothe the naked
- Protect the innocent
- Educate the young
- Support parents struggling to support their families
How do we choose to do this? We make great hot sauce, sell as much of it as we can and use what we make to live out our mission.
For the Hot Sauce 4 Good team Leadercast has been a lot of preparation and a lot of learning. We had to dive deep into the industry, the process of scaling up production, rules, regulations and schedule processes. More importantly it has been about preparing ourselves for what is to come.
This year’s theme could not be better – to live ‘beyond you’ – that’s not a phrase, it’s a command. “Lord, not my will but Your will be done.”
This week, this year, go beyond you.
