Called by Name

As I write this it is Monday - the beginning of another week at work. Yesterday our pastor challenged us to live in the moment, trust in God, make our next decision one to be a disciple of Christ. But today is Monday.  What sounded plausible yesterday is colored with the soot of a train and subway ride. What was doable yesterday when I was among family and community seems like a fantasy as I am plunged into client requests, software release schedules and doing still more with less.

Stearns-quote

On my train ride in I have been working my way through Unfinished by Rich Stearns, the CEO of World Vision. Towards the middle of the book he talks about being called, he says a lot of things on the topic but one thing stands out to me today - "make yourself available...and trust God for the outcome".

As I leave the subway and walk to the office my iTunes shuffle spins up this song (give it a listen - I hope it inspires you as it did me).  One of the lines stop me in my tracks much to the consternation of my fellow commuters exiting the train.  "I don't know why I always seem to seek the things that pass. But I hope one day to find a way to seek the things that last."

We are called to join the fight against poverty, malnourishment, fear, slavery, despair.  We have been given a gift from God, the presence of the Holy Spirit active and present in our lives to guide and inspire us. We are provided countless opportunities each day to witness to that presence - by our words and actions. We can answer that call with our next action, our next decision, our next greeting.  We have been called by name.

Hot sauce update:

We have our seasonal license and all the inspections completed. This weekend I hope to produce 150 bottles split between the Autumn Cayenne and a Habanero/Cayenne/Garlic.

We will be at the Jamesburg Farmers Market (our public debut). I'll post more details on the site this week! Thank you Angela!

The Yellow Scorpion peppers are still maturing - I haven't given up hope just yet - but I'm really hoping we get a very late frost!

Giving Update:

We funded the first 2 micro loans this week. Check out their stories.

Inside Joke (maybe):

  1. If this should find its way to Mr. Stearns, please accept my gratitude for a challenging and motivating book. Also, don't be surprised if you should find a package on your desk in the near future with my "wooden clog" in it. If you are confused, read Unfinished.
  2. I hope my wife isn't shocked that I posted and used one of her songs! If you listen and like the song, please feel free to drop us a line at bob@hotsauce4good.com. I'll post more if there is demand.

I Know My Savior Lives Lyrics and music: Laurie Ferretti and Michael Decker

youtube

I don't know why a child should die or why the old are cast away. And I can't explain the starving cries with all our wealth today.

But I know my Savior lives. Yes I know my Savior lives.  Well I know that He came and He died for me and I know that He still lives.

I don't know why I always seem to seek the things that pass. But I hope one day to find a way to seek the things that last.

But I know my Savior lives. Yes I know my Savior lives.  Well I know that He came and He died for me and I know that He still lives.

How long will I go on leading my life thinking my actions just don't count; ignoring the love that You poured out for me with no thought of Yourself. Now I know I'm called by name.

And I  know my Savior lives. Yes I know my Savior lives.  Well I know that He came and He died for me and I know that He still lives. Well  I know my Savior lives. Yes I know my Savior lives.  Well I know that He came and He died for me and I know that He still lives. Well I know that he came and He died for me and I know that He still lives. ______________________________

Matthew 5: 14-16 (NIV You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
